Yale Opera Students To Stage Scenes from Mozart, Donizetti

New Haven, Conn. — The Yale Opera will present fully staged scenes from eight different operas over two nights at the end of October.
On Friday, Oct. 30, Yale Opera will stage one act of three operas: Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro" ("The Marriage of Figaro"), Ambroise Thomas' "Hamlet" and Dvorak's "Rusalka."
The following night, Yale Opera will feature scenes from two Donizetti operas — "Don Pasquale" and "Lucia di Lammermoor" — as well as from Rossini's "L'Italiana in Algeri," Stravinsky's "The Rake's Progress" and Massenet's "Manon."
Each opera will be sung in its original language with projected English translations.
Performances both nights are at 7:30 p.m. in Morse Recital Hall in Sprague Memorial Hall, 470 College St. Tickets are $8-$12, $5 for students.
The artistic staff features stage director Marc Verzatt and music directors Douglas Dickson and Timothy Shaindlin. John Carver Sullivan is the costume designer and William Warfel will design the lighting. Doris Yarick Cross is the artistic director.
Verzatt, who directs opera, operetta and musical theater throughout the United States and Europe, has led Yale Opera's recent productions of "The Magic Flute," "Die Fledermaus," "La Bohème," "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Katya Kabanova."
The singers, students in the Yale Opera program, include Mireille Asselin, Eric Barry, Jeremy Bowes, Andrew Craig Brown, Gala El Hadidi, Jennifer Feinstein, Adam Frandsen, Stephanie Jeanne Gilbert, Amanda C. Hall, Jihee Kim, Michael-Paul Krubitzer, Loránt Najbauer, David Pershall, Tyler Simpson, Vince Vincent and Chrystal E. Williams.
